The Dream of My Apothecary

For years, I've dreamed about having a true apothecary space.

Not a fancy storefront on a busy street, and not a sterile commercial kitchen. What I envision is something much simpler and much more meaningful—a place where all the pieces of this life come together under one roof.

A place where jars of dried herbs line the shelves.

A place where tinctures quietly infuse in the corner while salves cool on the counter.

A place where baskets of freshly gathered plants wait to be processed after a morning spent walking the fields and mountain trails.

A place where students can gather around a table to learn the old ways of working with plants.

A place where I can pack subscription boxes, ship orders, write lessons, record videos, and share the knowledge I've spent years collecting.

In many ways, that dream is what inspired The Herbal Schoolhouse and Old School Herb Co.

More Than Just a Building

When most people think of an apothecary, they picture shelves full of herbs and remedies.

  • I picture something bigger.

  • I picture a working homestead where herbalism is simply part of everyday life.

  • The chickens scratching in the yard.

  • The garden producing food and medicinal plants.

  • The wild herbs growing along fences, creek beds, and mountain trails.

  • The kitchen where remedies are made.

  • The workshop where products are created.

  • The classroom where knowledge is shared.

For me, herbalism has never been separate from the rest of life. It's woven into gardening, raising animals, food preservation, self-reliance, and caring for family and community.

Building It One Step at a Time

The truth is, dreams like this aren't built overnight.

Right now, my herbs may be stored in one room, supplies in another, inventory somewhere else, and my office squeezed into whatever corner is available.

Classes happen where space allows.

Products are made where there's room.

Boxes are packed wherever I can clear a table.

If you've ever built something from the ground up, you know what that's like.

But every year, the vision becomes a little clearer.

Every herb harvested.

Every class taught.

Every article written.

Every product shipped.

Every student who joins me on this journey.

Each one is another step toward that dream.

Why I Share the Journey

One of the reasons I've started sharing more of our homestead life is because it all connects.

The garden teaches patience.

The chickens teach responsibility.

Wildcrafting teaches observation.

Herbalism teaches stewardship.

Together they create a lifestyle centered on learning from the land and becoming a little more self-reliant.

That is the heart of what I hope to share through The Herbal Schoolhouse.

Not just how to make a tincture or identify a plant, but how these skills fit into a larger way of living.

The Apothecary of the Future

Someday I hope to have that dedicated apothecary space.

A place with shelves full of herbs, a workshop for making products, a classroom for gathering together, an office for creating lessons, and a shipping area for sending herbal education and products across the country.

Until then, I'll keep building it one small step at a time.

🌿One herb.

🌿One class.

🌿One garden season.

🌿One student.

🌿One dream.

And honestly, the journey has been just as rewarding as the destination.
